It’s business as (UN)usual but we’ve got you.
It’s such a weird time in history, and one we will remember for the rest of our lives, but the positive is as humans we can adapt quickly and in doing so, we are undoubtedly saving lives. So, we want you to start this article with a deep breath and think of the things you are grateful for, then give yourself a big pat on the back for maintaining your distance and supporting your fellow humans. We’re proud of you!
As the Covid-19 crisis starts to mess with our routine again it’s easy to start to feel your motivation slipping. I know A LOT of us are struggling with the lack of routine and missing the good ‘ol days when we didn’t have to wear masks, and we could high five after our workouts so we wanted to give you some hot tips on how to keep living your best life during the iso lockdown.
Now, let’s get to the good stuff to keep you motivated and on your A-game. You’ve got this!
Wake up early and seize the day!
We know you love your sleep, and now you’re not commuting to the office, rushing to meetings or grabbing breakfast as you rush to the bus stop it’s easy to fall into the trap of staying up late and sleeping in in the mornings. But to be your most productive you still need to set your alarm, shower, moisturise and put some clothes on (this does include activewear and loungewear; bra is optional obvs, we’re not monsters!). Keeping a set morning routine helps to start the day right and it will keep you in a good headspace for whatever work/life throws at you.
Get sweaty
Classes have just started again with strict social distancing in place, and if you’re still not comfortable heading back to the gym this could be the perfect opportunity to invest in that PT you’ve been eyeing out on Instagram or to join the many online fitness workouts that you can do from the comfort of your own home. This is your time to shine and most online workouts you can try for free so get creative in your quest for abs and try a couple until you find the one you love. The Stella team are vibing these online workouts while in iso, check ‘em here:
Keep it Cleaner is the brainchild of Steph Claire Smith and Lauren Henshaw and their online program includes yoga, pilates, boxing, HIT classes plus healthy meal plans to get you on the right track.
Retro Sweat pays homage to the ’80s with their colourful and fun aerobic workouts run for 60min and there’s no experience necessary, they simply ask you to bring your tush and towel for your workout. That we can do! As to move with the times the founder Shannon Dooley has just made a VHS class that you can sign up for and enjoy the workouts from the comfort of your lounge room. If you need further clarification on just how incredible these workouts are check out the bodies on the RetroSweat babes on their website.
The Nike Training Club App will make you move, sweat, get stronger and thrive. Sounds good to us! The app offers flexible training plans tailored to every fitness level and there is everything from yoga, to cardio, HIT, strength and mobility. It’s sooo easy to follow and times each of the sets for you so you can focus more on your technique and less on how many burpees you’ve done. Sessions range from 15 – 45 minutes, and the best bit? It’s absolutely free!
Don’t forget to check in on your friends
Iso is such a lonely world… but the world is still moving, albeit a little slower and we bet your friends across the boarders are missing you as much as you are missing them! With interstate travel still a no-no we have to communicate via video chats or FaceTime. Another great idea is to get the girl gang together via Houseparty and set up a ‘Wine Diaries’ night where you all share a glass and chat through the app on a video call. It’s super easy to use and you can either lock the room so other people can’t enter or you can keep it open and other friends who are online at the same time as you can drop in for a chat too. If you’re missing your friend’s faces this is a great way to see them face to face and catch up for a laugh like old times while still staying on the right side of the law (which is always a good start, right?)
Master your art
If you’ve come out of isolation with just one new skill (other than being able to now eat 7 meals a day) then you are already a winner! Gone are the days where we can blame not having enough time available to finish that painting you started in 19’ or to complete that online photography class you enrolled in. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE! Master an old skill or pick up a new one, spend your free time and weekends doing the stuff that makes you feel real good inside, and if you have come out of iso being able to speak fluent Spanish then in our books you have single handily beat the Corona blues.
Stay positive, stay motivated and keep fighting the good fight!
