The Australian Female Led Businesses to Keep Watching in 2021

Out of 200 ASX companies, The Chief Executive Women (CEW) found there were only 10 female CEOS in Australia, and while more and more women are smashing through glass ceilings to create multimillion-dollar businesses we also know female-led businesses have been hit particularly hard since Covid-19 hit.

The Stella Women Series Featuring Moo Baulch

The Stella team met Moo and some of her colleagues from WAGEC a couple of months ago and there were immediately synergies between their goal to end gender-based violence in a generation and what we at Stella are committed to achieving as a business.

Stella was born to be more than just an insurer; we believe that we can make meaningful change through education, support and empowerment that will give women the tools they need to make informed choices and amplify women’s voices for generations to come. We’re delighted to be able to use our voice in promoting WAGEC’s work to drive positive social change and help them to shine a light on the underlying structural causes of domestic and family violence, homelessness and gender inequality.

Buying a New Car? Check Out These Top Tips Every Woman Should Know

Women account for 52% of all road users and now influence more than 80% of car purchase decisions in Australia. We drive 45% of all new cars on Australian roads, and as a percentage of the population, there are more women with a driver’s licence than men. It’s also worth noting that Australian women have better safety driving records than men, we have fewer accidents, fewer claims and a lot less damage to our cars if we do find ourselves in an accident so we were at a loss to understand how the insurance and motor service industries in Australia rarely marketed to women.

Who Were the Losers of this Year’s Budget? It’s Quite Simple Actually… Australian Women.

It was no surprise this years budget was defined by the coronavirus crisis, but for women who have been affected there is no immediate assistance, while male dominated industries such as construction have had huge boosts in funding. The facts are simple, women have been the hardest hit during the pandemic and even with more people working from home, women are still doing the lion’s share of domestic duties and caring, which is compounded by childcare centre and school shutdowns. Women over the age of 55 are also now the highest age and gender demographic experiencing homelessness and it is only going to get worse with the withdrawal of Super early to cover the cost of living during the pandemic.

Meet Sam White Our CEO

Sam White

At 24, I rebuffed conformity and set up my first insurance company, acutely aware that it was traditionally considered a male-dominated, almost-sterile industry. The irony wasn’t lost on me…

Over 20 years, I’ve built a number of businesses in the UK, turning over in excess of GBP 18 million (AUD $35 million) and employing over 200 people. I believe in building businesses that work for everyone: the people they employ, the communities they operate in and the customers they serve… I passionately believe that we need more women in this environment, in the financial services sector, and in politics. Why? Whoever controls the money makes the rules. Which leads me to Stella; a brand that’s rewriting the rules…
